Remedial Massage
Every body is unique and therefore there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to health. The first step is to listen and understand what's going on for you, before creating a completely bespoke treatment plan.
Remedial Massage combines a variety of therapeutic techniques to help you to feel more ease and freedom in your body. A treatment may include Swedish and Deep Tissue massage, Myofascial Release (John F Barnes Method), trigger point work, Thai Yoga Stretching and Reiki. A thorough consultation and discussion will inform which approach will be most effective for your needs.
As a Sensory Herbalist, I also work with plant medicine and may recommend a course of herbal teas and / or tinctures to support your healing path.
Remedial massage can help with back and neck pain, frozen shoulder, tight muscles, headaches, postural imbalance, injury recovery, stress, sleep issues, chronic pain, low energy, and much more.
Sessions are 60 or 90 minutes.
More about the techniques used in Remedial Massage
Swedish Massage — uses "classic" massage techniques to manipulate muscle tissue and joints, and is usually done with oils. It helps to relax muscles, improve mobility, increase circulation, and can help with pain management snd stress.
Deep Tissue Massage — follows similar principles to Swedish massage however firmer, sustained pressure is used to treat deeper layers of muscle and tension. It's important to remember that strong pressure doesn’t always equate to better results, and an effective treatment will use more gentle pressure too.
Myofascial Release — involves applying gentle sustained pressure into fascial restrictions to address pain and mobility issues. Unlike traditional massage, oils are not used and there is an essential "time element" as we wait for fascial restrictions to release.
Fascia is a continuous connective tissue that runs from the tips of our toes to the top of our head. It surrounds, protects, and connects every cell, nerve, tissue and organ in our body — like a 3D spider web made from a watery gel-like ground substance. Healthy fascia is supple and stretchy however trauma (physical or emotional) can cause restrictions, which can cause pain or other symptoms, often in a completely different area of the body. MFR is helpful particularly in situations where traditional massage has been too painful or given short-term relief. Read more about MFR here >
Thai Yoga Stretching — combines acupressure and passive stretches to encourage the body to release tension and improve energy flow.
Reiki — a form of energy healing that works to release blocks, rebalance the flow of energy in the body and promote healing. It’s known for reducing stress and inducing deep relaxation, and therefore is beneficial for a whole range of physical and emotional issues.
Sensory Herbalism is an energetic form of Herbal Medicine that encourages health and vitality, and treats emotional disturbances that can lead to physical complaints. After your consultation, I’ll recommend a course of herbal teas and tinctures that work in synergy with your body to address imbalances.

Testimonials
Katie is an intuitive and skillful massage therapist. I am so impressed with her professionalism and holistic approach to health and wellness that I have recommended her to several of my clients.
— Kate Thwaites, Carer
“I first discovered Katie’s deep connection to plants when she introduced me to nettles some years ago. My hay-fever has improved dramatically since. I have also struggled with rosacea for some years, and after the first month of Katie’s teas, tinctures and spritzers, I was calmer, more balanced and my skin has been improving ever since. Katie’s gentle wisdom and steady guidance have opened up a magical world of herbal medicine for me and I highly recommend her.”
— Joanna Eden, Author
“Katie is the most amazing massage therapist I have ever come across. I have already recommended her to many friends and clients who are blown away by her consultation, strength and advice. Her attention to detail and really finding out what you're hoping for during your massage are second to none. What a find!
— Charlotte Murray, Hairdresser
I’ve had a few Reiki sessions from Katie now and found it to be a great experience! I wanted to try Reiki and Katie explained what she would do and what to expect, so I felt very comfortable at my first session. I’ve found positive benefits from it and would highly recommend Katie; she has a lovely calming nature and is really knowledgeable.
— Seona T, Coach
I have been seeing Katie for just over 4 months. When I met her I was tense, anxious and experiencing abdominal problems including bloating. Katie has used various techniques during our sessions including reiki and fascia release, as well as teaching me massage and breathing techniques to use at home. I also take a calming tea and tinctures recommended by Katie. During the sessions I become so relaxed and struggle to stay awake. This state of relaxation and feeling of calm now continues between sessions. I am so pleased someone recommended Katie to me as she has helped me enormously.
